"Don't Trash It!" is seeking volunteers from May 13-27. Volunteers will be collecting items from donation stations or serving as station/truck monitors.
This is relatively low-effort service work that has a noticeable effect on the local environment and community. Contact Laura Murphy (lmurphy10@elon.edu) or Liz Van Hise (evanhise@elon.edu) for more information.
“Don’t Trash It!” collects non-perishable food, sheets, clothes, house ware, and furniture from students at the end of the academic year. Volunteers set up collection sites all over campus in an effort to make it easy for students to donate items as they move out for the summer. Donated items are sorted, organized, and forwarded to the appropriate local, nonprofit organization.
The objective of “Don’t Trash It!” is to divert donatable items from landfills and use them to positively impact our local community. In 2014, Elon donated 1,500 pounds of food to Allied Churches, 10,000 pounds of goods to Goodwill, and six truckloads of furniture to Habitat for Humanity.
This is the opportunity to help the local environment and community. We need your help to make this program a success! Click here to access the volunteer sign up form.
