Six Elon staff members were praised for their outstanding contributions to the university at an awards program Friday during an annual staff recognition celebration in McCrary Theatre.
Six Elon University employees were honored May 29, 2015, for their contributions to the university in an annual awards program attended by hundreds of staff in McCrary Theatre.
Susan Lindley was named Office Staff Member of the Year, Mark Terrell was named Physical Plant Staff Member of the Year and Pam Brumbaugh was named Administrative Staff Member of the Year.
Lindley is the university’s executive assistant to the vice president for Student Life and dean of students; Terrell serves as Elon’s utilities manager; Brumbaugh is director of experiential education in the Student Professional Development Center.
Three staff awards also recognized outstanding contributions from staff members.
The Phoenix Community Engagement Award is presented to a member of the Elon staff who has demonstrated exemplary service to the university, local or global community through his or her engagement in volunteer organizations. The award went to Leigh-Anne Royster, director of inclusive community well-being.
The Phoenix Innovation Award is presented to a member of the Elon staff who has displayed innovation by creating, designing, improving or implementing a new idea or program that benefits the university or our community. The award went to Jeremy Ball, director of advancement services.
The Phoenix Rising Award is presented to one newer member of the Elon staff who has consistently displayed excellence in pursuit of the Elon Commitment with an engaged mind, inspired leadership and global citizenship. The award went to Jan Register, program assistant to the Truitt Center for Religious and Spiritual Life.
Elon President Leo M. Lambert presented the awards to each recipient.
The 2015 staff day program included a performance by nationally acclaimed humorist and Elon trustee Jeanne Robertson P’89. Roberston entertained staff with comedic stories from her distinguished career and family adventures.
She encouraged staff members to find humor in everyday situations to make the campus community an even more welcoming place to live and work.
Three staff members also were recognized on stage for their retirements from the university – Wayne Brown, Alison Poliseno and Vickie Somers. Staff gave applause as well to Ron Klepcyk, the university’s director of human resources who retires within the next month.
Other staff retiring this year include Dottie Barr, Tracy Barr, Loura Burnette, Danny Cross, Bernice Foust, Mary Ingram and Carolynn Whitley.
