David Wormald, the Helpline Pro Bono Supervisor of Legal Aid of North Carolina will give a 30 minute training on the Lawyer on the Line pro bono program for Elon law students. This will cover the process, expectations, professional obligation, and resources included in the program. It will provide the students with what they need to receive their own clients to help out under the supervision of a licensed attorney.
Afterwards, Daniel Bowes, a staff attorney at the NC Justice Center will provide a 90 minute CLE on expunction laws in NC and the need for reentry advocacy. The training will allow law students and attorneys to assess a client’s eligibility for relief through expunction and/or certificate of relief and to be able to advise a client on how to file for relief. Specific topics will include the roadmap of the different stages of a reentry case, legislative updates, and “best practices”.
