The Global Ambassadors-hosted event allowed interested students to discover available semester Study Abroad and Study USA programs and to learn from program alumni.
The Global Ambassadors hosted Elon’s first Global Engagement Semester Showcase on Sept. 17 to help students learn about the many semester Study Abroad and Study USA opportunities.
The goal of the event was to connect interested students with alumni of programs so students could see all semester options and learn from first-hand experiences.
Twenty-five of 40 available programs were represented by program alumni stationed at tables circling the room.
In informal conversations, alumni shared stories of their academic and cultural experiences to help interested students learn the nuances of the many programs offered by the Global Education Center (GEC).
Several students entered the showcase with certain programs in mind, but after talking to the alumni of different programs, some had changes in thought.
A student who indicated he was most interested in studying abroad in Ireland or China left saying “I’m definitely interested in Semester at Sea.” Another student remarked, “Great information from all tables!”
Students also could chat with experts in financial planning for global engagement. “I learned a lot about how to finance a study abroad [program], and that was very helpful,” said one student.
A highlight of the Semester Showcase was the GoPro raffle. The winner, Annie Kang, a first-year student from Alamance, hopes to study abroad in Australia and is excited to use her new camera.
Global Ambassadors are peer mentors, inspiration leaders, and expert travelers that have participated in various Study Abroad and Study USA programs around the world. They’re excited to help Elon students plan for their own global engagements, and they look forward to hosting more informative events soon.
