Patrick Phillips, part of Elon’s 2015-2016 Visiting Writers Series, is the author of the poetry collections “Chattahoochee,” “Boy,” and “Elegy for a Broken Machine.” He also is the recipient of the Kate Tufts Discovery Award. Through his poems, Philips mourns the loss of friends and family, and frequently tells stories of earlier generations of his white, working-class family’s life. 

Phillips is on this year’s National Book Award shortlist for his book “Elegy for a Broken Machine.”
