Elon’s chapter of the management fraternal organization welcomed 27 members earlier this month.
The honorary and professional fraternity Sigma Iota Epsilon initiated 27 new members on Nov. 14 in a ceremony held in the LaRose Digital Theatre.
Sigma Iota Epsilon is the premiere fraternal organization in management in the United States. It encourages and recognizes scholastic excellence, as well as promotes cooperation between the academic and practical aspects of management.
Elon’s Theta Epsilon chapter, which is advised by Assistant Professor Haya Ajjan, initiated 23 undergraduate students, three MBA candidates and one professional member. Initiates are required to have at least a 3.25 GPA, have completed a minimum of 30 semester hours or one year at Elon, have received a minimum of a “B” in one management course, and have an interest to pursue management as a major.
The ceremony’s keynote speaker was Love School of Business Executive-in-Residence Mike Gannaway, who was also initiated during the ceremony as a professional member.
Gannaway spoke about the knowledge of various fundamentals he gained through each of his experiences in the cosmetics, basic apparel and footwear and apparel industries. He previously worked at Estee Lauder, Revelon, Hanes Brands and VF Corp.
Gannaway joined the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business in February 2015 as the school’s executive-in-residence. He retired from VF Corporation where he was the vice president of VF Direct/Customer Teams. He currently advises business students about career options, discusses what the job market is like, and shares insights from his 41 years of work experience.
