A block of North Williamson Avenue will temporarily close in downtown Elon this weekend as work crews install water lines for Elon University’s School of Communications expansion.
Weather permitting, contractors will close Willamson Avenue from West Lebanon Avenue to West College Avenue for much of the day on Saturday, December 12. Area businesses will be open throughout the day and the road is expected to reopen in the evening. Full repaving is scheduled for the spring.
A detour will reroute traffic around the work. Motorists heading north on Williamson Avenue will turn left onto Lebanon Avenue, then right onto North Holt Avenue, then right onto West College Avenue, which takes vehicles back to Williamson Avenue.
Motorists headed south will turn right onto West College Avenue, then left onto North Holt Avenue, then left onto West Lebanon Avenue.
