The assistant professor of communications discussed the use and measurement of light in a short video titled “Elon Holidays 101: It's all about the light.”
In the weeks following its annual Festival of Holiday Lights, Elon University produced a short video, titled “Elon Holidays 101: It’s all about the light,” detailing the use, history and meaning of lighting, luminarias and candles.
Among the faculty members featured in the video was Gerald Gibson, assistant professor in the School of Communications, who discussed production lighting and how light is measured (footcandles).
Sponsored by the Truitt Center for Religious and Spiritual Life, this year’s Festival of Holiday Lights was held on Dec. 3 and featured 1,500 luminarias honoring alumni and student donors.
The several hundred people in attendance enjoyed hot chocolate and cider, traditional Christmas carols, music from student groups, and an appearance from Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus. Students from Hillel also lit candles on a Menorah to commemorate Hanukkah.
