All qualified students are encouraged to consider running for a Student Government Association posititon. Open to all students and candidiates are not required to be a current member of the Senate or Executive officer.

The purpose of the Student Government Association, authorized by the Elon University Administration, shall be to represent the rights and opinions of the student body in a manner consistent with the mission of Elon University, to provide for appropriate student activities, and to join with the faculty and administrators of the University in building a stronger, more effective educational community.
In addition to serving as the “voice” of the student body to the University faculty and administration, SGA allocates over $ 500,000 in student fees each year to student organizations and other special allocations. SGA is not a direct programming body, but does provide leadership for student events associated with Homecoming.
Qualified students may run for a position on the Executive Council (Student Body president, vice-president, treasurer, secretary ); the At-Large Council (affinity class officers) and the Academic Council (representatives for each of the undergraduate schools). Organization Council elections are held through a separate process.Note: Students are NOT required to be current or prior members of SGA to run for any office (including Executive offices); however, executive officers and senators must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 or above (cumulative) and be in good conduct standing (no probation or preliminary suspension).
Applications are due by 5:00 pm on February 15 and additional information may be found in the packet linked below. Newly elected SGA members will take office April 7.
