Associate Professor Tony Weaver, chair of Elon University’s Sport and Event Management Department, was one of eight panelists featured in a WalletHub article highlighting Super Bowl 50.

The article, titled “Super Bowl 50 By The Numbers,” included an elaborate infographic detailing the NFL’s championship game as well as a question-and-answer section with eight experts in economics, law, and sport and event management.

Weaver addressed a variety of topics relating to the title game, including the matchup’s expected economic impact on its host city, trends in commercials and advertisements, and the future of the championship matchup and the league. He also shared his game prediction: Carolina prevailing over Denver.

“Typically, the economic impact of hosting mega-events is not as great as many people believe,” noted Weaver in the article. “Although the public has become more aware of what is happening with their tax dollars and understand that the return on investment of major projects such as hosting the Super Bowl is limited, there still can be great value. For instance, putting San Jose on a very short list of cities that hosted the Super Bowl can have a dramatic impact on the increase in community visibility.”

The other panelists hail from Clemson University, George Mason University, Harvard Law School and the University of Tampa, among other colleges.
