One of Elon University’s coed a cappella groups, Vital Signs, travelled to Orlando in February to compete for the first time in the International Championship for Collegiate A Cappella.
Not normally a competitive group, Vital Signs sought new opportunities and constructive critiques from qualified judges and other a cappella groups from around the country. The audition process consisted of preparing three songs for video submission to Varsity Vocals – the organization that started the ICCA.
After being chosen to compete in the next round, Vital Signs was placed into a quarterfinal at University High School in Orlando. Members then prepared a medley of three songs to showcase to the judges.
Among nine other talented groups from southern region, Vital Signs was honored with the award for Third Place. While only the top two groups from each quarterfinal move on to the semifinals, Vital Signs came home with helpful critiques, grateful to be one of the three groups recognized by the ICCA judges.
Vital Signs is now co-hosting its third annual Make-A-Wish Benefit Concert with the rest of the Elon a cappella groups where all proceeds benefit Make-A-Wish Central & Western North Carolina.
The concert takes place on Saturday, Feb. 20, at 7:30 p.m. in Whitley Auditorium.
