The professor of music had an article published in the professional trumpet journal.
Professor of Music Thomas Erdmann had a 6,000-word article published in the March 2016 issue of the International Trumpet Guild Journal.
The article, Avishai Cohen On Focus, Air, And Sound, is on the Tel Aviv, Israel born trumpeter, composer and bandleader. Cohen is one of three musical prodigy siblings, along with Anat and Yuval, who all play jazz. Along with his siblings Cohen co-leads the 3 Cohens band. Away from that band Cohen also co-leads the SFJAZZ Collective and the Third World Love band. In addition he leads his own Triveni trio, which Cohen says aims, “to challenge ourselves to stay lyrical and true, to balance freedom with self-restraint.”
The New York Times called Cohen “an extravagantly skilled trumpeter, relaxed and soulful … deftly combining sensitivity and flair.” Downbeat awarded Cohen’s Triveni Dark Nights CD a coveted four-and-a-half star review, saying, “It’s got everything you could want from a devastatingly young band: complete command, interaction dynamics, a sense of play and adventure … add to it Avishai Cohen’s penetrating voice on trumpet, and you need nothing more. It’s a complete package.”
