Cynthia “Cindy” Citrone P’17, of Southport, Connecticut, and David “Dave” King, of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, were recently elected to the Elon University Board of Trustees.
Cynthia “Cindy” Citrone P ’17, of Southport, Connecticut, and David “Dave” King, of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, were recently elected to the Elon University Board of Trustees.
Citrone is a pediatric occupational therapist and serves on the Elon Parents Council with her husband, Rob. Together, the Citrones have been among the university’s most generous supporters over the past three years, making multiple gifts toward Elon’s Greatest Needs, the Phoenix Club, the School of Communications expansion project and matching gifts during #ElonDay 2015 and 2016, the largest single days of giving in Elon history.
Cindy Citrone, a summa cum laude graduate from The Ohio State University, currently serves as a trustee for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, Near & Far Aid, Fairfield Country Day School and Hampden-Sydney College. She is an active and leading member of the Milken Institute for Strategic Philanthropy Center and presented at its annual Faster Cures Conference on maximizing philanthropy dollars. In addition, she is on the board of visitors for the MD Anderson Cancer Center at the University of Texas. Citrone also is a minority owner of the NFL’s Pittsburgh Steelers.
In November 2015, the Association of Fundraising Professionals honored her with the Connecticut Chapter’s Outstanding Philanthropist award.
Cindy and Rob are the parents of four children, including Gabriela ‘17, a sport and event management major and a member of Elon’s Student Union Board.
David “Dave” King has served since 2007 as the president and CEO of LabCorp, one of the world’s largest clinical laboratories and an international leader in genomic testing and the commercialization of new diagnostic technologies. Since 2009, he has also served as Chairman of the Board. Headquartered in Burlington, North Carolina, the company has maintained close ties with the community and the university, including support of the Elon Academy college access and success program.
King serves on the boards of Cardinal Health, the Seattle Science Foundation, PATH and the American Clinical Laboratory Association. He also serves on the board of trustees of Durham Academy.
King earned his undergraduate degree from Princeton University and his law degree from the University of Pennsylvania. Prior to joining LabCorp in 2001 as senior vice president/general counsel and chief compliance officer, he had experience as a partner with a global law firm and as a federal prosecutor. He also taught high school in Florida for two years after graduating from Princeton and before attending law school.
