Elon students win regional vocal competition

Five Elon students competed and won top awards at the National Association of Teachers of Singing Mid-Atlantic vocal competition and conference that was held at the College of Charleston in Charleston, SC, March 17-19. 

After advancing at the state level, each student competed against the top winners from NC, SC, MD, DC and VA. All five qualified for the National competition which will be held in Chicago this July, 2016. Tres McMichael, first-year music theatre major, won first place in college freshmen music theatre men. He is a voice student of Polly Cornelius. Grant Paylor. second year music theatre major, won first place in college sophomore music theatre men. He is a voice student of Polly Cornelius. Cassidy Hamilton, second year music theatre major, won first place in college sophomore music theatre women, and is a voice student of Polly Cornelius. Kimberly Zerega, junior Music in Liberal Arts and Acting double-major, won first place in college junior music theatre women. She is a voice student of Lisbeth Carter. Meagan Schrock, Music in Liberal Arts and Theatre studies double-major, won third place in college senior classical women. She is a voice student of Lisbeth Carter. McMichael, Paylor, Hamilton, and Zerega all performed on the prestigious Honors Recital. Staff accompanists, Tyson Hankins and Billy Summers played for the students.
