Due to inclement weather, Elon's annual Strawberry Festival will now wish the Elon Community Garden a happy 10-year anniversary on Monday, May 9, from 3:30-6:30 p.m.
The Elon University Gardening Club and Garden Studio class invite students, faculty and their families to the Elon Community Garden to celebrate 10 years and growing in the beloved garden.
The festival will run from 3:30-6:30 p.m. in the Elon Community Garden between the Sklut Hillel Center and the Powell House on East College Avenue.
The festival features musical entertainment and activities for children such as face painting, fairy hair and games. Students also will sell heirloom plants for summer gardens, including several favorite tomato varieites: Cherokee Purple, Matts Wild Cherry, Sungold, Zebra Stripe and Pruden’s Purple.
A diverse array of peppers also will be for sale, as well as herbs ranging from chamomile to thyme to tarragon. Exotic basil varieties such as the Persian Blue Basil, Mammoth, and Corsican Purple will return again this year. Herbal arrangements sold in pots are reported to make for fantastic Mothers’ Day gifts.
Guests are encouraged to bring their own mug or cup for drinks at this waste free event.
