Members of the “Facilities and Venue Management” course, offered by the Department of Sport and Event Management, and Student United Way chapter volunteered this semester with several United Way of Alamance County events.
Assistant Professor Cara McFadden’s “Facilities and Venue Management” course, in conjunction with members of the Student United Way chapter at Elon University, volunteered during the spring semester with several United Way of Alamance County events.
Working closely with Elon alumna Lauren Berk ’15, a marketing and events coordinator for United Way of Alamance County, the students volunteered at the Municipal Madness Basketball Tournament, featuring area law enforcement members and county officials, and Taste of Alamance, a daylong event celebrating the food and drinks of Alamance County to raise funds for the local community.
During the events, Elon students served in a variety of roles, ranging from officiating basketball games to tearing down equipment and cleaning staging areas.
“The experience was created to have students gain experience outside of Elon’s campus in the local community and to gauge the important role volunteers have in sporting events and partnered events in a community,” said McFadden.
