Renovation of the facility on Elon's Historic Campus is now scheduled for 2017-18
Weather delays on construction of new facilities for the School of Communications are forcing a change in the timetable for renovation of McEwen Dining Hall. This means McEwen Dining will remain open for the 2016-17 academic year, with renovation scheduled for 2017-18.
“We have experienced an unprecedented 87 days of rain, which has delayed construction of Schar Hall and the Steers Pavilion,” said Gerald Whittington, senior vice president for business, finance and technology. “We do not anticipate that the new communications facilities, which includes a renovation of the McEwen communications building, will be completed until early fall. This change in the timetable will allow us to fully complete the academic facilities on this quad before beginning work on the dining hall.”
The new construction schedule for McEwen Dining Hall will allow the university and Aramark, Elon’s campus dining vendor, to refine design plans and construction budgets for the project. Architects are working to create a flexible space where students can eat, engage and connect. Plans are to introduce a number of new concepts. New venues being planned, include Greens & Grains, Knead, Home & Away, Pei Wei and a fresh juice shop. In addition to the new dining selections, the building’s seating capacity and square footage will increase and dedicated meeting space and long tables for student engagement will be added.
