The associate professor of music worked with K-12 general music teachers and band and choral directors in LaFourche Parish, Louisiana.
Director of Choral Activities Stephen A. Futrell recently presented a series of professional development workshops for LaFourche Parish public school music teachers.
Futrell worked with band and choir directors co-presenting a seminar on professionalism, leadership and team building across the parish as well as within their individual ensembles. Break out sessions included topics with general music teachers (elementary level) on improvisation, musical game playing and use of Orff instruments in the classroom.
Other sessions focused on philosophy and techniques for choral conductors for both middle and high school levels. Topics included fundamental vocal technique and vocal health, conducting, phrasing and interpretation, diction and overall organization of the choral program.
