The new center aims to be a leading source of data analytics knowledge creation, aggregation and assimilation.
The newly formed Center for Organizational Analytics serves as a hub to bring together faculty, students and industry thought leaders to disseminate best analytics practices, solve organizational problems, and promote teaching, outreach and research in the area of analytics.
Launched by the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business, the center aims to lead the education, research and practice of analytics across Elon’s campus.
“With the Love School of Business’s foray into the analytics field a few years ago, we needed a center that would connect us with companies and organizations to provide internship and job opportunities for our students,” said Raghu Tadepalli, dean of the Love School of Business. “We also wanted the center to serve as a resource for our faculty, so they could stay current in this rapidly changing field.”
Associate Professor Haya Ajjan serves as the center’s director and works collaboratively with the School of Communications, Department of Mathematics and Statistics and the Department of Computing Sciences in the center’s efforts to support the analytics-oriented components of Elon’s undergraduate and graduate programs, as well as faculty and student research on techniques and innovations regarding big data.
To facilitate interaction among industry experts, students, faculty and professionals, the center hosts events, including the annual Elon Business Analytics Conference, an organizational analytics roundtable series, and workshops offering insights into analytic tools and approaches.
The center also provides students with opportunities to develop hands-on analytics experience through paid internships and consulting projects. The center’s interns are currently working on a data collection and analysis effort for Go Global N.C. and the N.C. Coalition for Global Competitiveness. Their work will help develop a statewide plan for global engagement across business sectors.
The center’s partners play an integral role in setting up data-driven student projects, internships and consulting projects with local businesses. Current partners include Amazon Web Services, Hanesbrands Inc., RTI International, SAS, United Guaranty and Go Global N.C.
