The grant will support the Refugee Assistance Program at the Elon University School of Law.
Heather Scavone, director of the Humanitarian Immigration Law Clinic (HILC) and assistant professor of law, was awarded a $75,000 grant from the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Social Services, for her project “Refugee Assistance Program” at the Elon University School of Law.
The goal of the HILC is to ensure that program participants have access to immigration legal representation with the processes of naturalization and adjustment of status. Through consistent outreach and competent oversight of program operations, HILC will ensure that N.C. refugess, asylees and other members of the target population will benefit from competent representation with both of these crucially important processes.
The grant will provide transportation and interpreting assistance to participants as well as fund a practitioner in residence and a program coordinator to oversee the program.
