The contribution will support the honor organization’s financial literacy program for local high school students.
PwC manager and Elon alumnus Ryan Rate ‘06 presented a check for $500 during the organization’s Sept. 13 meeting.
Through the financial literacy program, Beta Alpha Psi members educate local high school students on financial terms, promote proper budgeting habits and generate awareness on the value of a college education and the appeal of studying accounting or finance. During the 2015-16 academic year, members reached 927 high school students through presentations at local schools.
“PwC is excited to continue to expand our relationship with the university, the Love School of Business and Elon’s Beta Alpha Psi chapter by supporting the financial literacy program,” Rate said, “as investing in financial literacy is core to our firm’s mission in our communities.”
In April 2016, Beta Alpha Psi received the Rev. Richard McBride Campus and Greater Community Involvement Award in recognition of its contributions to the general welfare of the campus and greater community. In addition to the financial literacy program, members regularly engage in service through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program, ElonThon, Campus Kitchen, Habitat for Humanity and the Boys and Girls Club.
Established in 2006, the Lambda Xi chapter is hosted by the Department of Accounting in the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business and advised by Assistant Professor Patty Cox. The organization holds weekly meetings on industry topics, and hosts professional development and career events.
