SGA has made some changes this year to both the team festivities and the Homecoming Court selection processes to increase broader group/team participation and inclusivity. The winning team will also be able to forward a donation to their designated charity!

SGA believes we are One Phoenix, One Family!

Any group of 10 or more students can compete in the Team competition – teams do not have to be recognized  student organizations. The Team packet, available hereexplains in more detail the Team Competition. SGA hopes that teams from across campus will compete. This year, SGA also removed the team participation fee to increase broad team participation.

SGA has revised the traditional Homecoming King and Queen selection process and eligibility to honor those senior students who have made a contribution to the life of the University. A senior student (96 or more credit hours earned) can apply to be selected as a member of the Homecoming Court and does not need to be associated with nor nominated by a recognized student organization. Homecoming Court members will be  selected based on  a review of their leadership qualities, commitment to service, involvement, community engagement and spirit. Homecoming Court representatives are expected to have documented community engagement and strong involvement outside of the classroom. (i.e. undergraduate research, leadership roles, organizations, service, etc.)

Twenty students who apply and move forward in the process will be recognized as the 2016 Homecoming Court. Two students will be selected as “Homecoming Royalty” based on a vote of the undergraduate student body. The Homecoming Court selection will include a faculty/staff review of the applications submitted. The Homecoming Committee will then select the court members to be voted on by the undergraduate student body. The top two vote recipients will be named Homecoming Royalty and also recognized along with the other 18 members of the Homecoming Court at the Homecoming game.

Application packets will include: Application Form (see link below), Faculty Sponsor Form (see link below)  and a student resume outlining experiences and activities that exemplify the selection criteria above.  Homecoming Court members must be of senior status (96 or more credit hours earned), cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above (no rounding) and in good conduct status (no current disciplinary probation or suspension in abeyance status).  Completed application packets  for Homecoming Court are due by 5 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 10.
