The annual festival by the Elon University Garden Studio Class is now in its 8th year and will be held at the Elon Community Garden.
Students in Elon University’s fall semester “Garden Studio” course are hosting the 8th Annual Fall Pumpkin Festival this Friday.
Course participants organize the festival each year to bring the surrounding community together to celebrate the autumn harvest season and foster an appreciation of gardening. Held at the Elon Community Garden at 410 E. College Ave. behind the Sklut Hillel Center, the festival will be held from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and will feature live music from local artists and Elon students, fall-themed baked goods, games, crafts and more.
Back again this year by popular demand will be traditional vegan Brunswick stew served with hot cider and hot chocolate. A note on the stew — for those who might have found the stew a little spicy last year, the recipe for this year has dialed back the hot pepper, according to Michael Strickland, lecturer in English and environmental studies who teaches the course.
The Garden Studio class strives for as close to a zero-waste event as possible, and students encourage guests to bring their own mug/bowl/utensils. While utensils will be available, numbers are limited.
