Erin Hone, lecturer in the elementary education program at Elon, partnered with Angela Southard, math curriculum coach at Newlin Elementary School in Alamance-Burlington School System (ABSS) to present parallels between 21st century skills and exemplary mathematical teaching practices at the NC Council of Teachers of Mathematics conference on October 28, 2016.
Their presentation showcased three ABSS teachers’ instructional practices – Tracy Bolyard, 2nd grade teacher at Newlin, Christine Chun, 3rd grade teacher at Newlin, and Jenn Russell, 5th grade teacher at Andrews Elementary, along with video clips of their students engaging in such practices.
Their presentation was titled, “Building 21 Century Skills through Math Practices.”
