On Nov. 16 at 7:30 p.m. in McCrary Theater, the “Phoenix Winds” fall concert will feature world-class timpanist and percussionist David Constantine.
Constantine is currently a member of the United States “President’s Own” Marine Band, one of the world’s elite musical ensembles. He has won top prizes at international competitions both in the United States and Western Europe and has performed with an impressive list of ensemble and conductors including Marin Alsop, Leonard Slaktin, Gerhardt Zimmerman and John Williams. He can be heard on the Oregon Percussion Ensemble’s performance of Meyer Kupferman’s “Percussion Symphony” on Soundspells records.
Constantine holds a doctorate of music degree in percussion performance from Indiana University, as well as master’s and bachelor’s degrees from the University of Oregon. In addition to a busy performance and clinician schedule, Constantine also serves as professor of percussion at the College of Southern Maryland.
