The Nov. 13 win against the Western Carolina University Women's Club Soccer team was the final game of the fall season.
On Sunday, Nov. 13, the Elon Women’s Club Soccer team played the last game of their fall season against the Western Carolina University Women’s Club Soccer team.
Kickoff was at 3:30pm, and the sidelines were lined with fans who braved the chilly weather to cheer on the girls. It was a fair and aggressive game that the Elon women dominated from the start. Their use of crosses and passes from the corners to the top of the box was unstoppable and showed just how hard they have been practicing this season.
The Elon women went into the second half up 2-0, and finished with another three goals in Western Carolina’s net. Scorers for Elon included Shanley King, Marina Thornton, Emma Renfro, and Hope Kase. It was a sportsmanlike and hard-fought match, and the Elon women were pleased to have a final win to finish off a great season.
However, the game ended on a bittersweet note, as it signaled the end of seniors Danielle Fowler and Emily Fried’s long and incredibly successful time as Co-Presidents of the team. Their inspiring leadership and service to this team are unforgettable, and they have touched many lives in a very special way. A big thank you from the entire club to Danielle and Emily for everything and best of luck in the future!
