Exercise Science Professor Eric Hall spoke with the High Point television station following the recent concussion of Carolina Panthers linebacker Luke Kuechly.
A recent report by FOX8 WGHP spurred by the injury of Carolina Panthers linebacker Luke Kuechly highlighted the efforts of Elon faculty and students to better understand the long-term impact of concussions.
The report featured insights by Eric Hall, professor of exercise science and co-director of the Elon BrainCARE (Concussion Advocacy and Resiliency Enhancement) Research Institute, who talked about the often overlooked mental health aspects of concussions. Hall heads the BrainCARE Research Institute with Caroline Ketcham, associate professor of exercise science and department chair.
“People always think about some of the physical symptoms and cognitive changes that happen with it, but the emotional aspect and what that means and how that influences people’s emotional response is often overlooked,” Hall said.
Hall highlighted the evolution of the BrainCARE institute since it launched eight years ago, including its expansion in April to become a research institute dedicated to supporting both students and student-athletes at Elon while continuing to lead evidence-based research and practice in the field of concussions and mental health.
