Paula Patch described the outcome of a CATL Scholar project to revise tools education licensure candidates use to demonstrate grammar competency
Paula Patch, senior lecturer in English and college writing coordinator, presented at the Conference on English Leadership, held Nov. 20-22, in Atlanta.
Patch’s presentation, “Re-tooled: Revising a Grammar Competency Exam for Ed Majors into a Learning Opportunity for Everyone,” describes the ongoing development of resources designed to help students in Elon’s School of Education learn about grammar in order to both demonstrate grammar competency required for admission to licensure programs and, ultimately, use what they learn in their future careers as educators. This work is the outcome of a Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning Scholar project undertaken by Patch and Kathy Lyday, professor of English. Patch and Lyday plan to eventually make the grammar resources available to all Elon students.
