Ajjan presents on Elon organizational analytics graduate curriculum at Dublin symposium

Associate Professor Haya Ajjan discussed the Elon MBA and M.S. in Management organizational analytics concentration during the 2016 Pre-ICIS SIGDSA/IFIP WG8.3 Symposium: Innovations in Data Analytics.

Haya Ajjan, associate professor of management information systems and director of the Center for Organizational Analytics, presented information on the design of the organizational analytics concentration of the Elon MBA and M.S. in Management programs at the 2016 Pre-ICIS SIGDSA/IFIP WG8.3 Symposium: Innovations in Data Analytics on Dec. 11 in Dublin, Ireland.

The symposium, which brought together academic and industry experts and professionals in the field of business analytics and decision-support science, was a joint collaboration of the Association for Information Systems Special Interest Group on Decision Support and Analytics (SIGDSA) with the International Federation for Information Processing Working Group 8.3: Decision Support Systems (IFIP WG8.3) and the University College Cork (UCC), Cork, Ireland.

Ajjan was joined by fellow panelists David Paradice, Auburn University; James McDermott, University College Dublin; and Mary Daly, University College Cork, for the “Curricula for Business Analytics” session. The panel, moderated by Uday Kulkarni, Arizona State University, discussed the differences in  curricular needs across a spectrum of students: undergraduate, master of science, MBA and executive MBA.

The session’s abstract: “There is a growing demand for business analytics education from diverse audiences in business schools. Students from different groups have different learning objectives dictated, to a large extent, by their backgrounds, training, and work experience. Moreover, varied roles exist in organizations that are trying to build teams for exploiting the opportunities offered by the advent of analytics. Educators need to understand these diversities and design appropriate curricula for satisfying this demand. This panel is designed to understand the differences in the curricular needs across a spectrum of students: undergraduate, master of science, MBA, and executive MBA.”

The Association for Information Systems (AIS) is the premier professional association for individuals and organizations who lead the research, teaching, practice, and study of information systems worldwide. The AIS SIGDSA provides networking opportunities for people who conduct research, develop and/or teach about any type of decision support/analytics, knowledge management or data management systems intended to support managers and decision makers. Members discuss issues related to the design, history, theory, practice, methods and techniques, new developments, and applications of computing technologies to support decision processes and decision-making by individuals, groups and organizations.
