Service opportunities, gatherings and other special programs at Elon this week will commemorate the legacy of the late civil rights leader.
The 2016 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Beloved Community Celebration was organized by the Center for Race, Ethnicity & Diversity Education, Elon Teaching Fellows, the Kernodle Center for Service Learning and Community Engagement, the Office of Student Involvement, and the Truitt Center for Religious and Spiritual Life.

Monday, Jan. 16
Habitat for Humanity Building Blitz
8:30-11:30 a.m. and noon to 3 p.m.
Join the Kernodle Center for Service Learning and Community Engagement and Elon’s Habitat for Humanity Campus Chapter for the annual Martin Luther King, Jr. service learning project. This year we will be sponsoring a Habit for Humanity building blitz in our local Burlington community. Students are asked to register to participate by emailing habitat@elon.edu.
Note: This is a weeklong project. If Monday spaces fill up, student will have an opportunity to participate on other days during this week.

Share Your Light, Spread Your Love College Coffee

Elon University’s Office of Student Involvement will be sponsoring a special “Share Your Light, Spread Your Love” College Coffee . We invite the campus community to attend and commemorate the life and legacy of one of the world’s most inspiring human rights leaders. There will be a special performances and presentation by Elon students.

The Center for Race, Ethnicity, & Diversity Education along with the MLK Community Celebration Committee, would like to invite to our second annual MLK Oratorical Contest. All forms of verbal expression are welcomed. Awards will be given to top three winners.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Multifaith Service
Noon, Sacred Space in the Numen Lumen Pavilion
Much of Martin Luther King Jr’s work was rooted in his role as a religious leader. While he was a Christian minister, he also greatly influenced and was influenced by leaders of many other faith traditions. Students and staff connected to Truitt Center for Religious and Spiritual Life from many different traditions will offer a service in the spirit of MLK and his life, passion, and principles. Join us as we recognize the relationship between of multi-faith and social justice.

MLK Social Justice Poetry Slam and Open Mic
