Professor of Music Thomas Erdmann had a review published in the professional women arts journal.
Professor of Music Thomas Erdmann had his review of Norwegian folksinger Sinikka Langeland’s newest CD, “The Magical Forest,” published in the Winter 2017 issue of WomenArts Quarterly Journal.
Singer, composer and virtuoso of the 39-string kantele, a plucked instrument of Finnish and Estonian ancestry, Sinikka Langeland hails from Eastern Norway’s “Forest of the Finns.” Born in Kirkenær, Norway, her studies include not only the kantele but also the piano and guitar.
Additional time studying theatre at Ecole Jacques Lecoq in Paris and graduating from the University of Oslo with a degree in musicology deepened her understanding of historical context within music. All of this led to extensive research into old songs and music from Finnskoge and music of one of Norway’s recognized national minorities, the Forrest Finns.
