Assistant Professor of Biology Jen Hamel gave an invited seminar as part of the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI) seminar series on Thursday, March 2, at the institute on Barro Colorado Island, Panama.
The presentation was on how biological community interactions, such as parasitism, predation, and hybridization between closely related species, can affect the evolution of behavior in insects. The presentation highlighted contributions by small summer cohorts of Elon students to research projects led by Hamel, as well as work by Dawson Nance, a 2015 SURE student in Hamel’s lab group.
The seminar was titled, “A Community Approach to Insect Behavior.”
