Jeffrey Carpenter, associate professor of education and director of the Teaching Fellows program, was involved in three different presentations at the AACTE Annual Meeting in Tampa, Florida, from March 2-4, 2016.
Carpenter presented a session titled, “Edcamp: The Power of Unconference Professional Community.” This session described Carpenter’s completed and ongoing research projects with Jayme Linton of Lenoir-Rhyne University related to Edcamps, and discussed the implications of unconferences for teacher education.
Carpenter next presented a session titled, “Twitter Hashtags as a Tool for Building Professional Community: A Case Study.” This session reported on work by Carpenter and Elon colleague Scott Morrison, assistant professor of education, using Twitter with their teacher education students.
Finally, Carpenter contributed to a third presentation titled, “TPACK Leadership Action Rubric Implementation: Diagnosis, Reflection, and Transformation.” In this session, the AACTE Innovation & Technology committee, of which Carpenter has been a member for the past three years, presented its ongoing work to support the development of teacher education programs that graduate future teachers who understand how to effectively integrate technology into teaching and learning.
