The piece by reporter Bill O’Neil that aired Wednesday, March 15, centered on a recent study by the watchdog group Open Secrets that found that spending by outside groups in U.S. Senate elections in 2016 appeared to target female candidates more than male candidates. The study found that in the Senate race in North Carolina, $24.3 million was spent by outside groups on ads targeting Democrat Deborah Ross while outside groups spent $17 million targeting Repulican Richard Burr.
Husser noted in his comments that there are some differences between the genders once they arrive at Congress. “Female members of Congress are more likely to work across the aisle and cosponsor legislation with members of the other party,” Husser said.
