Belk librarians present at national conference

A team from Elon’s Belk Library recently presented at “At the Helm: Leading Transformation,” the highly selective national conference for the Association of College and Research Libraries held in Baltimore, Maryland. 

Joan Ruelle, dean and university librarian, Teresa LePors, coordinator of library research and scholarly services Chrystal Carpenter, university archivist, Dianne Ford, coordinator of library electronic resources, and Patrick Rudd, coordinator of library instruction and outreach services, hosted a workshop titled “Full Steam Ahead: Library Integration in High-Impact Educational Practices.” The workshop offered attendees the opportunity to learn what high-impact practices are in higher education, how to identify high-impact practices on their own campus, and how their libraries can collaborate with other campus partners in order to be more actively engaged in their institutions’ intellectual climate.

Dianne Ford and Patrick Rudd presented a poster titled “Charting Your Course! Engaging Your Library in High-Impact Teaching and Learning Practices” that offered suggestions on how academic libraries can embed activities and strategies in high impact teaching and learning practices on campus.

Teresa LePors presented a poster titled “Anatomy of a Liaison Librarian: Analyzing Liaison Activities Using Faculty Emails.” The poster depicted her analysis of emails received from, and sent to, faculty in her liaison areas over the course of a calendar year. It discussed the research methodology that she used, highlighted study results, and used concept mapping to visualize patterns of interactions.
