Sociology professors present research at Southern Sociological Society Conference

Rena Zito, Alexis Franzese and Raj Ghoshal, assistant professors in sociology, presented research and organized sessions at the annual meeting of the Southern Sociological Society from March 29 through April 1 in Greenville, S.C.

Zito presented a paper titled “Coercive Control and Intimate Violence among Couples with Infants: Relative Employment, Gender Ideology, and Gender Distrust among Married Couples, Cohabitors, and Non-Residential Couples” in a session on sexuality, health, and violence, for which she was the presider.

Franzese presented “’Too Young to be Done’: The Influence of Medical Professionals on Women’s Decisions about Family Completion” in a session on marginalized mothers.

Ghoshal organized a session titled “Race and Memory: (De)Commemorating the Confederacy,” for which he served as presider and discussant. He also organized a session titled “Race and Memory: Trauma and Justice” and a gathering of scholars studying collective memory and race.
