The Sustainability Projects Database provides an opportunity for students to contribute to Elon’s sustainability efforts.

The Sustainability Projects Database is a resource for the Elon community that lists current and past sustainability-related projects on or off Elon University’s campus.
Projects or project ideas are incredibly diverse, and many submissions have opportunity for additional development. This is where we need you – students interested in contributing to Elon’s sustainability initiative through independent research and/or class projects. There are several opportunities for project succession within the database; three are highlighted below.
From a previously owned family farm to an experiential learning center, Loy Farm has a rich history. The person working on this digital media project documenting the farm’s history may utilize information from campus archives or interviews with Loy family members. This project works in the community with contacts at the Carolina Farm Stewardship Association (CFSA) and a board member of Chatham Mills Farmers Market. Project goals are to aid welfare of local farming communities and assist with promotion of the Chatham Mills Market, a small producers-only market in Pittsboro, NC. The project is seeking a communications student whose expertise in public engagement, media outlets and communications coursework will help promote and protect these local, sustainable food systems. A long-standing fellow’s research project mentored by Lecturer Michael Strickland in the Department of Environmental Studies, and in coordination with senior Elon College Fellow, Caila Yates. The project surrounds the development of two community gardens within the Burlington Housing Authority. The project’s purpose is to advertise the gardens to community residents as an accessible and affordable resource to healthy plant-based foods. The project seeks an independent research student to work in coordination with ENS senior seminar teams and Strickland. Contact Caila Yates (cyates2@elon.edu) for more information.
