The team of undergraduate students presented a business case study analysis at the competition hosted by the Society for Human Resource Management.
A team of Martha and Spencer Love School of Business students placed ninth in the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) East Division I Student Case Competition held April 21-22 in Philadelphia.
Rebecca Karpinos, a junior accounting major, and senior management majors Lauren McAllister, Doriana Moody and Kayla Souza analyzed a business case study and presented their solution to a panel of judges. Associate Professor Brian Lyons served as the team’s faculty mentor.
Teams were challenged to apply the knowledge acquired through their studies to a realistic human resource situation. The competition required integrating human resource thinking, ethical decision-making, and strong communication and presentation skills.
“Through the competition, we were able to learn from peers and network with HR professionals who offered valuable insight on the growing industry,” Souza said. “We were also able to put skills learned in Dr. Lyons’ classes to use in a real-world scenario. The SHRM case competition was a fantastic learning opportunity that has certainly prepared us for success post-grad.”
Elon competed against 22 schools, placing ahead of Texas A&M University, Rutgers University, James Madison University, Pennsylvania State University, and the 2016 finalists, University of West Florida and Fisher University.
