Jackson, vice president for student life and dean of students, will step down from his role at the end of this academic year after 24 years.
The Elon community will gather at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, May 9, to honor Smith Jackson, the vice president for student life and dean of students who is stepping down from his role at the end of this academic year after 24 years.
Students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends of the university are invited to a reception in Jackson’s honor from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in the lounge on the first floor of Moseley Center.
Jackson joined Elon in 1994 as dean of students and was promoted to vice president in 1998. He is a member of President Leo M. Lambert’s senior staff and is responsible for all aspects of student life, including 15 departments that provide student services and co-curricular programs for student learning and development. Among those areas are residence life, student leadership development, student organizations, health and counseling services, campus recreation, service learning and religious and spiritual life.
