Hillary Zaken joins the staff of Elon Hillel during a time when the organization is experiencing growth.
Hillary Zaken joined the Elon Hillel staff in May 2017 as the new assistant director for development and strategic communications.
Zaken comes to Elon most recently from the American Hebrew Academy in Greensboro, where she served as director of communications and worked to develop and execute a strategic public relations and communications plan to foster and extend the school’s admissions, recruitment and fundraising goals. She has also worked in development and communications in the nonprofit community in Greensboro.
Zaken relocated to North Carolina in 2012 from Jerusalem, Israel, where she lived for 14 years. While living in Jerusalem, she worked as a journalist for more than a decade for numerous English language news outlets, including the Washington Post, Boston Globe, PRI’s The World, Christian Science Monitor and the Times of Israel.
She earned her bachelor’s degree from Bard College in New York in religion and Jewish studies and a master’s degree ABT from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in Bible Studies.
