The annual award is presented to the most outstanding graduating Elon MBA student.
Elon MBA candidate Katharine Frazier was presented with the Richard H. Behrman Award on May 18 at a dinner to celebrate the Elon MBA and M.S. in Management Class of 2017.
The award is named after Richard “Dick” Behrman, who was the first director of the Elon MBA program. Elon MBA faculty members choose the winner based on academic excellence, contributions to the classroom environment through active participation, and demonstrated leadership in both program and community activities.
Frazier, the general manager at SkySouth Aviation, began the Elon MBA program in 2013. During the past year, she was part of the winning Elon MBA case competition team, participated in the study abroad experience to Vietnam and Thailand, and was inducted into the honor societies Phi Kappa Phi and Beta Gamma Sigma.
Frazier is active with the First Presbyterian Church of Burlington and serves on multiple community organization boards.
She received her bachelor’s degree in music theatre – design and production from Elon in 2005.
“Katharine exemplifies how Dick Behrman would describe the ideal MBA student,” said Bill Burpitt, associate dean for graduate programs in the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business. “It is a given that Katharine is great academically, but more importantly, she has been a great citizen and contributor to the MBA program. She is the kind of person you trust if you need someone you can count on to represent Elon and the MBA program.”
The dinner also recognized the students who were inducted into the Phi Kappa Phi, Beta Gamma Sigma and Sigma Iota Epsilon honor societies this year, as well as the students who received Certified Management Accountant Scholarships.
Associate Professor Barth Strempek, who is retiring at the end of this month, and Burpitt, who is stepping down as associate dean, were recognized for their service to the Elon MBA and M.S. in Management programs.
Previous Behrman Award recipients in attendance at the dinner were Marty Blevins G’11, David Fesperman G’94, Coleman Rich ’93 and Jessica Townsend ’06 G’15.
