Ashton Newhall '98, a former trustee and the sponsor of the C. Ashton Newhall Endowed Lecture at the Love School of Business, has received the annual entrepreneurial recognition from Ernst & Young.
Alumnus and former Elon Trustee Ashton Newhall has been named a regional Entrepreneur of the Year by global professional services firm Ernst & Young, which presents state and national awards to leaders in entrepreneurship.
Newhall is managing general partner at Greenspring Associates, a venture capital firm with offices in Owings Mill, Maryland, and Palo Alto, California, that he co-founded in 2000. A third generation venture capitalist, Newhall graduated from Elon University in 1998 and in 2003 was appointed to the advisory board of the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business. In 2007, Newhall was recognized as Elon’s Young Alumnus of the Year and in 2009, he joined the Elon University Board of Trustees.
The annual C. Ashton Newhall Endowed Lecture the Love School of Business brings successful entrepreneurs to campus to share their knowledge adn experience managing the risks and rewards of entrepreneurial endeavors.
Newhall was recognized in the Business Services category and was one of seven Maryland entrepreneurs honored by Ernst & Young, which has been honoring the achievements of entrepreneurial leaders through the awards program for more than 30 years.
“The class of winners in 2017 represents new ways of thinking, disruptive business models and overall dynamism that makes this country a great place to do business,” said Debra von Storch, director of the EY Americas Entrepreneur of the Year Program.
Newhall’s selection as a Maryland winner follows a three-month review by an intedpendent panel made up of previous award winners, leading CEOs, investors and other regional business leaders. As a regional winner, Newhall is now eligible for consideration for the Entrepreneur of the Year National program.
