For the fourth straight year, Elon places in the top 20 of the full Hearst Journalism Awards.
Elon University’s School of Communications finished in the top 10 nationally in the 2016-17 Hearst Intercollegiate Broadcast competition and in the top 20 of the overall Hearst Journalism Awards for the fourth consecutive year.
The Hearst competition offers a series of 14 competitions in writing, photojournalism, broadcast news and multimedia each year. The competition is open to college students from more than 100 schools accredited by the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications. Student work is reviewed by professionals and awarded points by each of three judges in every competition.
Elon placed eighth in broadcast and 16th in writing, leading to the university’s 17th-place overall ranking (fourth among private universities, trailing Syracuse, Northwestern and Southern California). Elon students also individually recorded three top 10 national category finishes: third in television news, seventh in breaking news and ninth in radio news.
