Drew Simshaw and Heather Gram join the law school’s Legal Method & Communication Program on a two-year fellowship to teach legal writing to incoming students.
Two new faces have joined the Elon University School of Law faculty to teach a legal skills course to students during their first year of study.
Drew Simshaw and Heather Gram are the latest additions to the Legal Method & Communication Program, which is woven through Elon Law’s first-year curriculum. The program’s integrated, immersive, and iterative writing and research curriculum coordinates with Elon Law faculty who teach doctrinal courses.
He is a graduate of the Indiana Maurer School of Law and has completed requirements for an LLM in Advocacy from Georgetown. Simshaw has written several law journal articles on privacy law, technology law, and data security.
“I’m honored to contribute to Elon’s cutting-edge LMC program,” Simshaw said. “Mastering foundational research, analytical, and written and oral communication skills is essential to becoming an effective and ethical attorney. I look forward to helping students develop these skills, using insight gained from my firsthand experience as an appellate litigator, public interest advocate, and legal scholar.”
Gram earned her law degree from the University of Cincinnati School of Law and a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
“It’s a great opportunity to join this wonderful team at Elon, and to provide students with a practical perspective based on my experience in entertainment and corporate law,” she said. “Learning how to analyze and write well is just as important as being able to communicate that information with all types of people.”
Simshaw and Gram take over teaching responsibilities from former instructors Julee Flood and Tim McFarlin, whose two-year fellowships concluded in June. They join Tiffany Atkins and Elliot Engstrom, both of whom return to Elon Law this fall for the second year of their own LMC fellowships.
