American College Personnel Association selects Bosch as practitioner-in-residence

Matthew Antonio Bosch has been selected to serve the American College Personnel Association as the practitioner-in-residence for the Coalition on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Awareness.

​Director of the Gender and LGBTQIA Center at Elon, Bosch’s professional background includes service at community colleges, four-year public and private institutions and 15 years of nonprofit board experience. In his role at Elon, Bosch is active with several institutional change committees including the Presidential LGBTQIA Task Force, LGBTQIA Employee Resource Group, First-Year Advisory Committee, Provost’s Inclusive Community Team, Vice President’s Council, and Women’s, Gender, and Sexualities Studies Advisory Council.

Bosch said ACPA has recognized the great LGBTQIA work that Elon students, faculty and staff do each year, and a primary goal for him in this role will be to generate and distribute content around LGBTQIA practices nationwide. “When looking for best practices around LGBTQIA inclusion, ACPA jumped at the opportunity to include Elon,” Bosch said. 

As practitioner-in-residence for ACPA, Bosch will lead webinars on best practices related to LGBTQIA inclusion and assist the networking area of the coalition to expand its reach and connections across LGBTQIA professionals. For the past two years, Elon University has been ranked No. 1 in the South by CampusPride for LGBTQIA inclusion, and Bosch recently published a book chapter on trans people in higher education. Within his local community in North Carolina, Bosch serves as co-founder and board member for the countywide Alamance Pride organization and annual community festival.

Before coming to Elon, Bosch served as chief diversity officer for North Hennepin Community College in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, where he was selected as “Top 25 Latino Leaders in Minnesota” by the Minnesota Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. In 15 years as an ACPA member, Bosch was elected by the membership to serve six years on the association’s national governing board following a three-year term as president of the Minnesota College Personnel Association.

In keeping relevant and connected to emerging trends across higher education, Bosch has hosted conference presentations at multiple ACPA conventions, led state chapters as assembly coordinator, and has led higher education consulting in Florida, Kentucky, Illinois, North Carolina, Minnesota, Massachusetts, Maryland, California and Arizona. 

Bosch is currently pursuing his doctorate in higher education management from the University of Pennsylvania and will be coupling his academic work with this national leadership role as ACPA’s new practitioner-in-residence.
