The free ridesharing program includes a secure and user-friendly online tool to find commuting or single-trip solutions.
Elon University is launching a new Elon-focused rideshare program — Share the Ride NC (STRNC) — to help students, faculty and staff find carpool matches, bicycle partners and transit information.
STRNC is a free, secure and user friendly online tool that can be used to find ridesharing options for commuting or single trips to the airport, beach or wherever else you travel. Elon has partnered with STRNC on a website specifically for Elon University students, faculty and staff that replaces the previous Zimride program. A valid Elon University email address is required to register an account.
“We’re excited to offer a new program through the statewide system that allows students, faculty and staff to easily find and share rides with others at Elon,” said Elaine Durr, Elon’s director of sustainability.
After creating an account and trip profile, STRNC users can view and communicate with potential matches through the system. No personal information is shared without consent. Notifications can be set-up to alert users when they have a new potential match.
Elon students are matched with other Elon students. Elon faculty and staff have the option to match with anyone registered in the state-wide STRNC system or exclusively with fellow Elon faculty and staff.
STRNC also allows users to log their trip information in the commute calendar and see statistics about dollars saved, emissions reduced and calories burned for walking and biking trips.
STRNC is available to Elon through its ongoing partnership with Piedmont Authority for Regional Transportation (PART) as part of a statewide N.C. Department of Transportation initiative aimed at reducing vehicle emissions.
