Zipcar offers Elon students, faculty and staff 24/7 convenient access to vehicles that can be rented by the hour or the day.
Elon is launching a new partnership with Zipcar this fall to offer on campus car sharing solution. The program provides students, faculty and staff with 24/7 access to vehicles parked right on campus.
Zipcar is a convenient, self-service transportation option and a great option for students without a vehicle on campus. It is also a good solution for faculty and staff who carpool to campus and need to use a vehicle during the day and/or for short business and personal trips.
Students, faculty and staff ages 18 and older are eligible to join Zipcar for a $15 yearly membership fee. Reservation rates start at $7.50/hour or $69/day and include gas, insurance and up to 180 miles per day. After joining and receiving their Zipcard, members simply reserve a car online or on their phone with the Zipcar app, use their Zipcard to scan into the car and drive away. They then return the vehicle to the same pick-up location at the end of the reservation. Cars can be reserved for as little as one hour or for multiple days.
Three Zipcar vehicles are now available – a Ford Focus named “Syrupy”, a Nissan Sentra named “Josie” and a Toyota Prius named “Sarah.” The Zipcars have designated parking spots in the McMichael, Global and Danieley Center parking lots for convenient pick-up and return.
Elon students can now zip to the grocery store, a doctor’s appointment or an internship. And international students can enjoy peace-of-mind with an easy way to get around the U.S.
“We’re thrilled to team up with Elon University to bring Zipcar’s convenient, on-demand transportation service to campus,” said Katelyn Bushey, director of university programs, Zipcar. “Zipcar offers all the benefits of owning a car without the hassles that come along with it like circling for a parking spot before class, paying for gas or worrying about oil changes.”
The first-year membership fee with Zipcar will be waived for members of the previous Enterprise car share program. Members should select this option from the drop down menu when joining Zipcar.
Departmental accounts are available for faculty and staff university business travel.
A Zipcar representative will be on campus Tuesday, Aug. 29 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Lakeside Iconic Plaza to answer any questions.
