Ray Knight, professor of accounting, researched the impact of random changes in allocations of partnerships.
Professor of Accounting Ray Knight’s research on changes in allocation methods was recently published in Taxes: The Tax Magazine.
The paper, “Partnership Allocations Should Be Respected,” was co-authored by Knight, Kelly Holder, attorney at law, and Lee Knight, professor of accounting at Wake Forest University.
The authors researched how changes in the allocations of partnerships affect its members. They analyzed Code Secs. 701, 704, and 754 and concluded that taxpayers who form partnerships should avoid frequent changes in allocation methods to gain a tax advantage.
The paper was published in the magazine’s November issue.
Knight joined Elon’s faculty in August of 2017. He previously taught tax courses to MSA students at Wake Forest University.
Taxes: The Tax Magazine is published monthly by CCH Tax and Accounting. It provides readers with analyses of federal, state and international tax issues.
