Amy Overman is associate director of the Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning and associate professor of psychology and neuroscience.
Amy Overman, associate director of the Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning and associate professor of psychology and neuroscience, presented an invited talk for the fall faculty convocation at N.C. Wesleyan College.
Overman was invited to be the speaker for the college’s fall faculty convocation. Her interactive presentation, “Mission critical: Why faculty matter beyond the classroom and how we can increase our impact,” explored the positive effects that faculty members can have in student success and retention by:
- setting high expectations and supporting progress toward them
- building strong faculty-student and student-to-student relationships
- creating meaningful and integrated learning experiences
In the presentation, Overman shared how taking these actions can simultaneously meet two important goals: contributing to student success in college and beyond and making faculty life more rewarding.
