A recent article in the Burlington Times-News that focused on the impact of the #MeToo social media campaign included the insights of Kathleen Stansberry, assistant professor of communications.
The article titled "#MeToo: Social media amplifies experiences, actions," examined how a social media campaign that seeks to raise awareness about sexual assault has united men and women who have survived sexual harassment and assault.
“People are often more willing to share private things in a private space to a public audience,” Stansberry told reporter Kate Croxton. “I think that is part of … the #MeToo hashtag, why it has taken off the way it has, why it has become so cohesive, and also there is a power differential between people who have undergone sexual assault."
